Our Story
120 years of neighbors protecting neighbors
Roberts County Farm Mutual has been a fixture of South Dakota since 1905 — still member-owned, still headquartered in Sisseton, still built on the idea that people do better when they look out for one another.

From 102 signatures to a statewide mutual
The idea began in 1897, when 102 neighbors in the northern and northeastern part of Roberts County put their names to the founding of a farm mutual. A county-seat dispute delayed the charter, but in 1905 the company was formally organized at the Kaiser schoolhouse near Rosholt.
Its first officers — S.J. Wallstrom, Peter Kaiser, O.E. Lien, and John Loken — wrote $25,000 of insurance that first year. More than a century later, we protect roughly 1,900 policyholders through about 60 agents, and we’re still owned by the members we serve.
